All women’s Tour du Mont Blanc: a guided hiking circuit

This guided trek of the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) in summer 2027 is designed for women who want to experience the scale of the Alps within a supportive, grounded community. Want to join the trek? Prepare for your alpine hike with our practical guide written by us locals. The ultimate guide to the TMB

This women-only TMB does the full loop, led by a professional female hiking guide. This tough 170km trek through France, Italy, and Switzerland moves away from the competitive “peak-bagging” culture often found in the mountains, focusing instead on a shared pace and collective resilience.

The journey is physically demanding, involving 10,000 metres of ascent, but the environment is one of encouragement rather than ego. We prioritise a balance of grit on the trail and recovery at the end of the day; 7 out of the 9 nights are spent in private twin rooms, offering the necessary space to recharge and reflect. There is a luggage transfer on most days, so you can hike with a day pack, or at most with one night’s supplies.

This is a trek for those who value the challenge of a long-distance walk and the genuine connections that form when women navigate the wild together. Read the full TMB itinerary here

If you want to see the Alps at their most photogenic, you must time your trek for the “Great Bloom.” As the winter snow recedes, the valleys are transformed into a vibrant tapestry of color. From the deep blue of the Gentians to the rare Martagon Lily and the iconic Alpenrose (rhododendron), the biodiversity of the Mont Blanc massif is world-class. The end of June and the first week of July are the “Golden Window” for flower lovers.

What’s more, the peaks towering above the TMB trail are still bright with new snow. The air is fresh, the streams are full of glacial meltwater, and the meadows are buzzing with life before the heat of August arrives.

More than just a trail: why hike the TMB in a women-only group?

There is a specific kind of energy that settles over a group of women once they lose sight of the trailhead. On the all women’s Tour du Mont Blanc, where the daily climbs are long and the descents are taxing, that energy becomes a vital part of the experience. It isn’t about being “better” than a mixed group; it’s about the different way we occupy the space.

The freedom of a different pace In many outdoor settings, there is an unspoken pressure to prove one’s fitness or technical skill. In a guided women-only group, that performative layer tends to peel away. We work together to find a rhythm that respects the group’s collective energy. Whether we are breathless on the climb to Grand Col Ferret or taking a moment to sit in silence by a glacial stream, there is no need to apologise for your pace. This environment gives you the mental space to connect with the landscape, to enjoy the views.

A space for real resilience The TMB is a challenge that demands a lot from the body. There is something quietly radical about a group of women being unapologetically tired, sweat-soaked, and wind-burned together. Away from daily societal expectations, the focus shifts entirely to what your body can do rather than how it looks. Sharing the highs of a successful mountain pass and the lows of a rainy afternoon creates a bond based on mutual respect and shared grit.

The luxury of privacy While the camaraderie of the trail is wonderful, we also recognise the importance of personal space. By staying in private twin rooms for 7 out of 9 nights, we bypass the “always-on” nature of traditional mountain refuges while the luggage transfer ensures that you have clean clothes and your own slippers for every evening. Having a quiet space to retreat to—to wash your kit, rest your legs, and process the day—makes the physical challenge more sustainable and the social experience more meaningful.

Finding your autonomy For many, this trek is an opportunity to reclaim a sense of adventure. Without the traditional gender dynamics that often see men taking the lead on navigation or pace-setting, women in these groups step into those roles. It’s about building confidence in your own feet and your own decisions, supported by a guide who understands the specific nuances of the female hiking experience.

Alpine hospitality with new besties After a long day on the trail, nothing beats the camaraderie of a mountain refuge or a cosy hotel. Sharing a bottle of local wine and a traditional raclette with your fellow trekkers is the ultimate reward. These evenings are filled with deep conversations and laughter that you simply do not get on a solo mission. The cheese on this world famous trek is integral part of it.

Meet your guide: Kirsti

A female hiker with arms up in the air on the rocky scree trail of Alta Via 2 of the Dolomites

I’m Kirsti, a qualified hiking guide with a background rooted in the fells of Finland and the peaks of Italy. My path to the Alps was driven by a lifelong love for movement, nature, and the quiet stories found in the wild.

My goal is to enable a safe and supportive group dynamic that gives you energy and deepens your experience of the mountains through the conversations and help from your new hiking friends. I focus on a calm, assured approach to guiding—pacing the day so there is always time to appreciate the environment, dip our feet in a glacial lake, or enjoy a long mountain lunch.

For me, success isn’t just about reaching the next refuge; it’s about the confidence you build in your own feet and the detachment you feel from the pressures of everyday life. I’m here to handle the logistics and the safety so that you can simply focus on the walk.

FAQs about the All women TMB

Is this trip right for me if I’ve never done a multi-day trek?

Absolutely. Many women join my trips having never hiked for consecutive days or stayed in alpine accommodation. Because we prioritise a balanced pace and the comfort of private twin rooms for 7 out of 9 nights, this is an ideal introduction to long-distance trekking. You’ll leave not just with memories, but with a newfound sense of mountain autonomy. Read Outside magazine’s beginner’s guide to TMB

How fit do I actually need to be?

The TMB is a significant physical undertaking, but you don’t need to be a marathon runner to enjoy it. A good baseline of cardiovascular fitness—the kind that comes from regular walking, cycling, or swimming—is essential. You should be comfortable walking for 6 to 8 hours a day with a steady incline. The goal isn’t speed; it’s stamina.

What is the terrain like?

The paths are generally well-maintained, but they are true mountain trails. You’ll encounter rocky sections, tree roots, and occasionally some loose gravel on the descents. It’s not “climbing”, but it is a step up from a casual park walk. Being comfortable on uneven ground will make your journey much more enjoyable.

How much ascent should I expect?

On average, we will be gaining and losing around 1,000 meters of elevation each day. See the TMB itinerary here. To put that into perspective, it’s roughly the equivalent of climbing a small mountain every morning. The key is to take it slow and steady—we have the whole day, and as your guide, I’ll help manage our pace.

What’s the best way to prepare?

The best training for hiking is… hiking! Try to get out for at least one long walk (4+ hours) once a week in the months leading up to the trip. If you can find some hills, even better. Focusing on strengthening your quads and glutes through simple exercises like squats or lunges will also help protect your knees on those long alpine descents. Remember to use the hiking boots you plan to take on the TMB and do test also the backpack you will use. For the rest of the gear, check out our TMB packing list.

What is your guiding approach?

It means we adapt to the group. We fit the activity to the weather and the collective ability. There is no ego on my trails—if we need to slow down to take in a view or talk through a steep section, that is exactly what we do. The strength of a women-only group often lies in this lack of ego; we share the challenges of the climbs and the rewards of the views equally. It is an environment where you can be yourself, share your story, and draw energy from the women walking alongside you.

Why this trek stays with you

There is something about the scale of the Alps that puts life back into perspective. Watching the morning mist lift off the glaciers or sitting down to a communal bowl of pasta in an Italian rifugio are simple pleasures, but they feel amplified when shared. A great group reminds you how you can laugh at your mistakes, be gentle to yourself and focus on the beauty of the mountains.
